Port Erie Plastics has made practical decisions for 60 years - allowing the company to enjoy continued expansion as well as the opportunity to give back to the Erie community.

Henry J. Witkowski launched Port Erie in 1953 with one injection-molding machine. From there, the company took off. In 1966, Port Erie purchased a 22-acre site in Harborcreek and built a new manufacturing plant, which has been expanded multiple times over the past five decades. The largest growth spurt came in 2002. At that time, they purchased another 47 acres, building two separate 100,000 square-foot warehouses. That year they also transformed 75,000 square feet of warehouse in their main plant into more manufacturing space. Another 75,000 square foot distribution warehouse was added in 2007.

Now encompassing 575,000 square feet in four buildings on 69 acres along Troupe Road, Port Erie has 90 injection-molding machines and approximately 400 full-time employees. The company has a full-service tool room and has expanded into extrusion, blow molding, structural foam molding, assembly, decorating and distribution warehousing.

This family owned manufacturer has become one of the region's largest and strongest molders. “We emphasize our roots in injection molding and see it as our core business,” says William Witkowski, CEO of Port Erie Plastics. “But we separate ourselves from the run of the mill custom molder with everything else we bring to the table.”

Now with a third generation of family members active in the business, Port Erie has consistently given back to the industry and community. The company has supported the growth and vision of Penn State's Plastics Technical Center in Erie. Penn State is one of only two campuses in the country offering degree programs in plastics engineering technology. In 1994, the college named the Witkowski building in honor of the family's commitment to the program.
