“Wine is bottled poetry,” writes Robert Louis Stevenson. At Presque Isle Wine Cellars, you can make your own poetry or taste the local version. Since 1964, Presque Isle Wine Cellars has been providing both amateur winemakers and commercial wineries with the raw materials and supplies needed to make wine. In addition, Presque Isle Wine cellars is one of the oldest family owned wineries in Pennsylvania.

In 1969, Douglas P. Moorhead and William M. Konnerth opened Presque Isle Wine Cellars, one of the first commercial wineries allowed under the newly created Pennsylvania Limited Wineries Act, producing award-winning wines from locally grown native, hybrid and vitis vinifera grapes.

Doug Moorhead, and his son, Erik now carry on the legacy of Presque Isle Wine Cellars. They have fermented a solid relationship with their customers, in which the goodwill of these customers has been a key to their success over the years. “We certainly see a positive future for the business. We have a great group of employees who are outstanding at what they do,” says Doug. “Even though we are not a massive winery, the wine business has continued to grow, and we have reached an astounding annual total of 27,000 gallons of wine.”

Presque Isle Wine Cellar's main varieties include Chardonnay, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Blanc and Viognier for whites and Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Blaufrankisch, Syrah and Pinot Noir for reds. They have also had success with some promising high quality new French hybrids such as Noiret, and be sure to try their two dessert wines, a traditional Port made from the Touriga Nationale Grape, and their multi gold medal winning Eskimo Kisses, an Ice Wine style wine produced from frozen Vidal grapes.

These wines can be sampled at the Isle House, a year-round tasting room, café, events center, and gift shop. You can enjoy a meal created by local chefs, paired with a glass or bottle of their award winning wine at this lovely restored farmhouse. You are also invited to picnic by the waterfall at their beautiful creek-side location, while sipping on a sweet glass of Blushing Heron. Whatever your taste, Presque Isle Wine Cellars offers a culinary adventure that can be expertly paired with an award-winning wine.

Whether you schedule your next special dinner or event here, sign up for a class, or just visit the beautiful setting of the grounds, Presque Isle Wine Cellars offers a taste of poetry from the beautiful Lake Erie Wine Growing Region.“Wine is bottled poetry,” writes Robert Louis Stevenson.
